The much anticipated show which has captured the hearts of many on the continent is set to make a return on the small screen soon.
According to Africa Magic website, reality show Big Brother Africa will return with a bang on DStv and GO tv channels this year, exactly 10 years after the reality TV show hit the screen.
“The demand from audiences for BBA continues undimmed. In some ways, it really is astonishing to see the enthusiasm for this particular series, but in other ways it is to be expected.
“Viewers want to see unscripted television, as it happens, with normal people that they can relate to dealing with completely familiar emotional concepts, such as happiness, frustration, success, failure, hope, anxiety, friendship, opportunity and of course, love.
“Big Brother continues to be a ratings sensation from Australia to India and in Africa for exactly this reason. And the format’s flexibility is a producer’s dream because you can do something different every time,” says M-Net Africa Managing Director, Biola Alabi.
Liz Dziva, public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said she was yet to get more details from the organisers of the show.
“We are yet to get more details on the forthcoming season and we will notify you thereafter,” said Dziva.
Africa Magic revealed that they would reveal further details about Big Brother Africa in mid-January when the call to entry for new housemates will also begin on the AfricaMagic channels.
The forthcoming edition would be Season 8 and is yet to have a theme and tagline.
The show initially involved 12 countries within Africa and two countries Ethiopia and Mozambique were added in Season 4 and two other countries Liberia and Sierra Leone were added in Season 7.
Each country produces a contestant living in an isolated house while trying to avoid being evicted by viewers and ultimately winning a large cash prize at the end of the show.
Zimbabwean representatives Munya Chidzonga and Wendall Parson have flown the country’s flag high in the showcase.
Season 6, Big Brother Amplified was won by Nigerian Karen Igbo and Wendall Parson.
Season 7, Big Brother StarGame was scooped by South Africa’s Keagan Petersen.
Maneta Mazanhi and urban groove sensation Roki Josphats represented the country in Big Brother Stargame and were evicted for violent behaviour.
