Nashie lands another endorsement deal

The 20-year-old rap star will be brand ambassador for local designer wear, Born Stunna.

Nashie hit the headlines a few weeks ago after he was endorsed by the country’s giant beverage manufacturer, Delta Beverages, to advertise one of its beer brands, Redds.

In an interview with Saturday Leisure, Nashie said he was ecstatic that his works were getting recognition in the city.

“I am glad that there are people who recognise my potential and appreciate me and recommend me to be their brand ambassadors,” said Nashie.

He said he would be dressed by Born Stunna in all his public appearances and stage performances.

He said he had been endorsed for a year.

Nashie broke into the limelight when he curtain-raised a show pitting South Africa’s lady of the moment Zahara and Winky Dee in August last year.

His creative genious saw some revellers mistaking him for rap star Stunner.

He has not looked back since then, prior to the show he had worked with the late veteran musician, Andy Brown.

“I got into serious music business in 2006 after the late Andy Brown recognised me and invited me to his studio and since then I have established myself as both an artiste and a producer,” said Nashie who prefers to call himself Baba Wengoma.

He was born in February 1992 and grew up in Harare. He attended Allan Wilson High School before proceeding to study film at the Zimbabwe International Film Festival Trust where he graduated with a certificate.

He dropped his first single in 2009 before releasing his first album Rudo, Mari Nemarwadzo, which was accompanied by a video Everyday featuring the late veteran guitarist Andy Brown.

Nashie moved to Bulawayo in 2010 and has established a recording studio to nurture budding artistes in the city.

He said he was unfazed by the notion that Bulawayo musicians cannot excel in the industry compared to their Harare counterparts and he shot a beautiful video for one of his tracks, Mic nema Headphones from his album Emotions.
