DURBAN-based kwaito group, Big Nuz who were set to perform in Bulawayo on April 17 and cancelled that show due to xenophobic attacks in their country, will now perform at the Large City Hall on May 23.The concert now dubbed Zerophobia will be used as a campaign to condemn the violence and will feature local acts such as DJ Nospa, former Star FM presenter – Nomalanga Nyathi and DJ Street Biz.

In the violent attacks in South Africa, seven foreigners were killed and thousands displaced, forcing Zimbabwean artistes to call for a boycott of shows involving that country’s artistes.

As a result, Big Nuz cancelled their show to concentrate on raising awareness and denouncing xenophobic violence in their home city and were part of a march held to denounce violence there.

Organisers of the show, Zero One One confirmed Big Nuz’s Bulawayo performance saying the trio was now prepared to perform here, especially considering that attacks on foreigners in their home town have subsided.

“We saw it fit to raise awareness and condemn the violence in South Africa first before performing in Bulawayo,” Zero One One chief executive officer Sammy Washington Washaya said.

He said they changed the venue from the Bulawayo Amphitheatre to the Large City Hall because it offers better security.

“The Large City Hall is more secure than the Amphitheatre as there’re dark spots there, that’s why we changed.  There’s a spacious dancefloor and we can monitor people moving in and out of the venue,” he said.

Organisers have beefed up security for all performing artistes to ensure that they’re not  harmed, should any form of violence erupt during the show.

Before coming to Bulawayo, Big Nuz will first perform in Beitbridge at Pagomba Cafe on  May 22.
