The carnival queen, who is going to be handsomely rewarded with US$20 000 and a Mercedes-Benz C Class, will also represent the country at the Miss Tourism World and the prestigious Rio Carnival in Brazil. Karikoga also took time to address the models from the country’s 10 provinces who will be in camp until the day of the finals on May 17. He stressed on the need for discipline saying the pageant would not tolerate indiscipline.
“We have secured the services of female police to guard the premises while the girls are in camp. We will not be tolerating any acts of misconduct and anyone caught sneaking out of the hotel room at night will be sent back home.
“We will call out the Press and make it a public ceremony like we did in the case of Lungile Mathe,” he said.
During the Press reception, the ZTA announced its partnership with the Miss Heritage pageant that will see Miss Heritage Zimbabwe being crowned as the second queen during Miss Carnival. The ZTA chief said it was not the first time more than one queen had been crowned at a pageant.
“It was the norm during the Miss Tourism days when we had a Miss Zimbabwe and at the same time a Miss Universe who would take part at the Miss World Universe. Since Miss Heritage promotes our heritage and tourism we decided to accept their offer for a partnership.
The first runner-up will be Miss Heritage and will represent the country at the Miss World Heritage that is being hosted in August,” he said.
Besides the prestigious title, Miss Heritage Zimbabwe will walk away with US$10 000 among other prizes. ZTA took the chance to applaud the corporate world for coming through and supporting the pageant.
The sponsors include Goldtech Electronics, ZBC, Rainbow Tourism Group, Air Namibia, African Sun, Merca Nightclub, Pathfinder Luxury Buses, Sam’s Limousine, ZLG and Garwe Restaurant among others
