BESIDES playing a critical role in infrastructure development, construction company – The Big Rock Logistics – has played a commendable role in changing lives of many through its community social responsibility programmes in Manicaland Province and beyond.
The Big Rock Logistics are specialists in earth moving and equipment hire, construction and civil works, supply and delivery of aggregates.
The organisation has embarked and completed life-changing developmental projects, thanks to a client-oriented approach and exceptional work ethic.
These include the Chimanimani Cyclone Idai Recovery Project where they worked at Runyararo Relocation Site, Dangamvura Water Pipeline Project, Wattle Company roads rehabilitation (Nyanga and Bvumba — Map off), Matanuska Distribution (Burma Valley irrigation, Comhold Services and Musikavanhu irrigation (Chibuwe).
They also worked on Penhalonga low density road grading and gravelling, Tsambe Causeway Road (widening and storm water drain construction), Fairview Road (grading and gravelling), Gemmology Centre (construction of access road), Holy Cross Mission and Rutenga.
The company has also given a helping hand in earthmoving work on Zimunya road grading, at Manicaland Provincial Heroes’ Acre, as well as on Cyclone Idai response road work.
Only last week, The Big Rock Logistics partnered with The Manica Post to ensure the success of the publication’s inagural Health and Wellness Day which saw 15 soccer teams battling it out for the top prize at Mutare Boys High School.
The Big Rock also played a critical role in ensuring that last year’s highly-subscribed Manica Post Ladies Summer School was a success.
The company partnered the newspaper through channeling some funds.
The Ladies Summer School, held late last year, was designed to equip women with knowledge and skills that empower them to understand the country’s laws and stand up against gender based violence.
The Big Rock Logistics’ managing director, Mr Blessing Tendai Mangwiro last year also came to the aid of Dangamvura High School through mobilising funds for the rehabilitation of the school which has been facing a myriad of challenges.
Mr Mangwiro handed over ZWL1,5 million to the school, while other members of the Old Students Association raised more than US$500 and ZWL 1.5 million at a fundraising event.
Among an avalanche of challenges noted include vandalism of school property, inadequate chairs and no Information, Communication and Technology facilities.
The funds were channeled towards the rehabilitation of the school which has been in dire straits in a bid to restore its former glory.
The ZPCS Commissioner General Goodwill Trust Fund Golf Tournament held in April also saw Mr Mangwiro chipping in to raise funds for the benefit of orphans, widows, widowers of ZPCS officers and disadvantaged members of the community.
In the showbiz industry, Mr Mangwiro has also played a pivotal role in assisting visual and performing artistes in the province.
The Big Rock Logistics became one of the major partners of the sold-out and historic Makhadzi show held at Manicaland Motoring Club in April.
He also attended gospel musician and Mutare City Council ambassador, Jairos Mutambikwa’s DVD album launch and bought his album for US$2 000.
Mr Mangwiro urged artistes to keep preaching and moulding the society through music.
The Big Rock was incorporated in 2018. It is a fast growing earthmoving and transport business. They provide a superior service in bulk extraction of pit and river sand, as well as gravel.
They also offer transport services for mineral ore, waste material, rubbles, aggregates and industrial raw materials, national and internationally.
The Big Rock operates tipper trucks, lowbed services and offers grader, dozer, pneumatic roller, vibro roller and water bowser roller services.
