Bikita man lures job seeker (14) to Beitbridge before raping her

Thupeyo Muleya, Beitbridge Bureau

A 41-year-old man from Bikita now based in Beitbridge has been brought to court for allegedly luring a 14-year-old girl to the border town with promises of employment before raping the desperate job seeker.

The accused and the teenager were neighbours in their Bikita village.

He appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody until 3 July pending trial.

In a statement on Tuesday, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said the man had travelled to Bikita earlier this year where he took the complainant from her rural home to Beitbridge under false pretences.

“Allegations are that the accused person took the 14-year-old complainant from Bikita to Beitbridge on the pretext that he had found employment for her. He took the complainant to his residence in Dulivhadzimu and raped her overnight,” said the NPAZ.
