JOHANNESBURG — Zimbabwe international winger Khama Billiat was last night reportedly on the verge of tying up a deal with big spending Mamelodi Sundowns.
But the player’s manager Edzai Kasinauyo although noting that a move from Ajax Cape Town was imminent, he was not giving away much. Kasinauyo said the player is “ready for anything” as negotiations continue behind the scenes.
Billiat leaving Ajax became more of a reality on August 1 when it emerged the player has not been registered by the club for the 2013/14 season but as it stands Billiat’s future is still unknown.
“We are just busy discussing trying to find the best way forward for the player … they [Ajax] want to keep him there,” Kasinuayo said.
Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United are also thought to be the other teams vying for Billiat’s signature, although he has also been linked to Kaizer Chiefs.
Kasinauyo is giving little away in terms of what would happen.
“We haven’t concluded anything in terms of the future of the player so Ajax did well not to take the risk of registering [a foreign player] and closing that foreign spot,” he adds.
“If you are a good player, people expect you to move but at the same time that can happen or it may not happen … you see, Khama is a very confident player and he is always ready for anything.”
Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has been a long time admirer of Billiat’s talents and with the former Bafana Bafana gaffer eager to win the championship this year, he may win his way through into luring the former Warriors international. — Kickoff.com/Sports Reporter.
