FORMER Kaizer Chiefs defender, Thomas Sweswe, has thrown his support behind Khama Billiat to assume the captaincy at the South Africa-based giants.
The Amakhosi cleared a considerable number of players from their fold during the off-season.
The Zimbabwe international forward survived the chop and it has been taken as a sign of his value to the Glamour Boys.
The clearout left the Amakhosi without a permanent Captain and several names are being mentioned as potential candidates for the leadership job.
Billiat and Erick Mathoho have emerged as some of the favourites.
Former Chiefs and Warriors defender, Sweswe, believes Billiat has the qualities to the Amakhosi.
“All the qualities are there he has learnt from the previous leaders at the club,” said Sweswe.
“Imagine being led by Knowledge Musona, Tinashe Nengomasha, Teko Modise, Method Mwanjali, Benard Parker and Willard Katsande?
“All these are big players and Khama learnt a lot from them at the clubs he has played before.”
Billiat deputised Hlompo Kekana in 2016 at Mamelodi Sundowns during a period they clinched the CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup, the following year.
Since moving to Chiefs, Billiat has struggled to hit his best form, which he showed at the Brazilians.
He is yet to win any silverware at Chiefs.
“I think Khama, leading Kaizer Chiefs, will actually reignite him to perform better,” said Sweswe.
“It will inspire the whole team to greater heights.
“He has got all the qualities to be a good leader.
“It is not even new to him since he once led the Warriors of Zimbabwe, so it will be a good big development for him.
“I’m 100 percent supporting my fellow country boy to lead a big team like Kaizer Chiefs, which comes with a lot of responsibilities.
“He will prosper and take the club to the next level and help them reclaim the glory days,” said Sweswe.
