A HARARE businessman has landed in the dock after he allegedly defrauded a city woman by purporting he could provide professional construction services.
Lucious Sambureni was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda, who remanded him in custody to today for bail consideration.
The complainant is Sarah Hwingwiri, who is employed by Justice to the People Legal Trust, as the chief executive.
Sambureni is employed by Haven Rock Private Limited Company as the director and he is appearing, on the behalf of the company, and in his personal capacity.
Allegations are that on June 6, Sambureni was given US$900 by Hwingwiri for back filing, compaction and concrete slab for her company’s Reinham House.
Sambureni allegedly misrepresented to Hwingwiri that the job would be done by a professional and qualified builder.
On June 25, Hwingwiri went to the house and she was not impressed with the work and she called Zvimba rural local body inspector, James Taurai Vakai.
He came and interviewed one of the builders, Kenneth Mafusire, who admitted that he was not a qualified builder.
The inspector’s findings prompted Hwingwiri to file a police report leading to Sambureni’s arrest.
Hwingwiri suffered a prejudice of US$900 and nothing was recovered.
