BILLIONAIRE BOYS CLUB. . . Dangote keeps Africa’s top spot

AFRICA’S richest man, Aliko Dangote, three South Africans and two Egyptian business tycoons are the only Africans among the 500 world’s richest people.

Dangote, the South African trio of Johann Rupert, Nicky Openheimer, Natie Kirsh and the Egyptian duo of Nassef and Naguib Sawiris — are the only six Africans among the world’s 500 richest people, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Dangote is the only African in the top 100.

He is in 67th place with a fortune of US$28,1 billion.

Rupert is in 176th place with a fortune of US$13,9 billion, Oppenheimer is in 222nd place, with a fortune of US$11,9 billion while Kirsh is in 296th place with a fortune of US$9,62 billion.

Nassef Sawiris is in 320th place with a fortune of US$8,95 billion while Naguib Sawiris is in 433rd place with a fortune of US$7,17 billion.

Given the list only includes the 500 richest people, it means that the likes of Strive Masiyiwa, who has a fortune of US$1,8 billion, were not included.

Masiyiwa is ranked the 1764th richest person in the world and the 12th richest person in Africa.

Alon Musk has topped the world’s rich list yet again after his wealth soared by more than US$200billion this year.

Musk, 53, has now amassed a net worth of US$455billion, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index revealed, a rise boosted by a nearly 71 per cent surge in Tesla stock following the US election.

Musk is the automaker’s largest shareholder with about a 13 per cent stake in the company.

His net worth was also boosted by an insider share sale of SpaceX, which Musk heads.

The rocket company and its investors agreed to purchase as much as US$1.25billion of its common shares.

The tech tycoon, who spent at least US$277million backing Donald Trump and other GOP candidates along the 2024 campaign trail, has seen his fortune grow by more than US$170billion since Election Day. — H-Metro Reporter/Mailonline.
