Speaking during a media tour yesterday, Mr Shangwa said the council had since bought polypipes, gravel and bitumen to service sewer pipes and roads in the central business district, high and low-density residential areas.
“The Zimbabwe National Road Administration availed US$1 million to us and we plan to raise US$800 000 more from residents to complement what is required.
“We intend to replace 40 kilometres of dilapidated roads in town and residential areas which have been in a deplorable state,” said Mr Mavesera.
“We have started laying pipes worth more than US$250 000 to replace the rusty and blocked pipes, especially in areas such as Chipadze where sewage was flowing through doorsteps of many households.
We have covered 60 percent to date.”
Mr Mavesera said they were targeting to replace 46 kilometres of sewer pipes before the rainy season begins.
Mashonaland Governor and Resident Minister Martin Dinha applauded the refurbishment of the infrastructure.
