DESPITE being held to a 1-1 draw by ZRP Morris in their reverse fixture in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league on Wednesday, Bindura United are confident of doing well in the Yadah TV Knockout Cup.

The eight-team tournament will kick off this weekend with Gunners taking on Starbill at Lafarge tomorrow while Bindura lock horns with Ngezi Platinum on Sunday in what promises to be exciting encounters.

Bindura won their league game against Ngezi and coach John Wilo said they were ready for the knockout tournament.
“Obviously we are in there to win as well. Despite dropping points yesterday (Wednesday) we are geared up for the tournament because it’s money which is at stake, so we want to win.

“It’s a game of soccer and a lot of things happen, but life goes on.
“We are ready to play because the guys were saying for this one we are playing for the province. We want to play for the people in our province, to show them that we can do it,” said Wilo.

Wilo said Sunday’s game is a must-win and warned his charges against complacency when they take on Ngezi Platinum. “We have already played Platinum in the league and beat them but for this game we have other plans. The earlier we score the better.

“If we allow the visitors to score first then it will affect our game plan. An early goal settles everything.
“We are depending on early goals, so that we wrap it up early especially in the first half,” Wilo said.

Speaking about their draw against ZRP Morris, the Bindura United coach expressed disappointment at the way the game was handled but was quick to say the competition was getting tough with clubs in the bottom half fighting relegation.

“Basically, a lot can be said about yesterday’s (Wednesday’s) draw, but we wouldn’t want to say much about the officiating of the game.
“Our guys played well, the visitors scored first from an offside position from our point of view, then we equalised before scoring another goal from the same position they had scored but it was ruled offside.

“It’s hard and it’s tricky because as much as we want to win other teams are fighting relegation,” said Wilo.
Bindura will be hoping to turn their fortunes when they battle it out against Ngezi Platinum in this tournament.

But they should brace for a tough encounter as Platinum seek to exact revenge after losing in their league match.
