LONDON. — Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has signed a new five-year contract at the club, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until at least June 2019.
The 22-year-old, who had two years remaining on his existing deal, has pledged his long-term future to the club after recently establishing himself as the No 1 keeper ahead of Petr Cech.
Courtois made his Chelsea debut in the opening 3-1 win at Burnley last month, impressing sufficiently enough since to keep his place in the Blues’ line-up.
After joining from Genk in 2011 the shot-stopper was sent out on loan to Atletico Madrid for the past three seasons, making a big impression as the Spanish side won both the Europa League and La Liga titles during his time at the club.
The news comes after the youngster confirmed last week he was set to sign a contract extension when he returned from international duty with Belgium.
When speaking to www.chelseafc.com he said: “I’m very happy with this new deal, it’s really nice to have signed this new contract for five years.
“My future was already sorted but it’s nice to know I’m going to be here for another five years and now I can just concentrate on playing games.” — Mailonline.
