BINGA District will this week explode into life with 20 groups expected to battle it out in a show dubbed the One Love One Enemy Talent Show. The show is aimed at raising awareness on HIV and Aids through song and dance. The talent show, running under theme, “HIV and AIDS Awareness and Testing”, will be held on Saturday at Ntengwe Drop in Centre in Manjolo, about 25km from Binga Centre.

The 20 acts, drawn from Binga Centre, Sikalenge, Manjolo, Siachilaba and Sianzyundu wards, will fight for honours in four arts genres, dance, poetry, singing and drama.

The project officer responsible for running the International Citizen Service Programme at Ntengwe for Community Development, Caabilo Cigambyo Mudenda, said the talent show was the third this year.

“This talent show is our third this year alone following two successful ones in March and June during which our collaboration with the Binga District Voluntary Counselling and Testing Mobile team enabled 167 rural community members to get tested for HIV,” said Mudenda.

He said the June show was attended by more than 870 people with 67 being tested for HIV by the Binga District Hospital Voluntary Counselling and Testing Team.

“The groups will showcase talent in the dance, drama, poetry and singing categories with a view of encouraging rural community members to make voluntary decisions to get counselled and tested for HIV,” said Mudenda.

Those who would come first in each category will walk away with $100, while the rest will be given consolation prizes.
The Ntengwe for Community Development district coordinator Innocent Isaac said the talent show was a way of partnering the Government and civil society in fighting the HIV and Aids scourge.

“The talent show is a strategic tool of trade that enables us to consolidate partnerships with businesses, Government line ministries and communities to ensure we complement them in fulfilling their strategic mandates such as HIV testing and so come Saturday, the VCT team from Binga District Hospital will be available to provide their services free of charge at the door step of our rural community,” he said.

The event will also be graced by two acts namely, Machona Munkuli renowned for his rhumba dancing antics and Lubu Cilimba Cultural Dance from Lubu ward.

Local business people and Government officials are expected to attend the event.
