THIRTY-Seven school teachers from Binga are up in arms with the Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches Association (Zisca), particularly the Matabeleland North executive after failing to get their Level One coaching certificates for a course held in 2006. The attendants undertook the course at Binga High School under the auspices of the then Zisca chairman, Nelson Matongorere who also confirmed the development but said he submitted all the results to the association.
Concerned would be coaches said authorities have at times told them that results were submitted to the late Zisca treasurer Alex Mafu, who had a printing company.
“We are still waiting for our certificates and every time we try to inquire from the authorities we are told different stories. Eight years is just too much and what makes it even more painful is that you cannot go to the next level without producing your certificate,” said one of the participants Elias Sibanda.
He said they have been consulting the Matabeleland North soccer coaches boss, Clemence Bonda who all along has been telling them consultations with the national executive were going on.
“I only got to know of the issue early this week after having received a call from the Matabeleland North chairman Clemence Bonda,” said Prosper Kwenda, the Zisca organising secretary.
He said his office has been very busy trying to clear a backlog of certificates but they do not have records of the 2006 participants.
Oscar Mazhambe, Zisca secretary-general said his office has no record of the said course.
“I have tried to go through our archives but I found nothing, something is not right. People thought Binga was remote and therefore no one will raise issues, as an association we are interested in knowing what really transpired with those certificates,” said Mazhambe.
The former Zimbabwe Saints defender became emotional when told that there were officials who were hiding behind the unfortunate passing on of Mafu as the reason behind the “delay” in issuing out certificates.
“Let no one try and hide behind Alex, I used the same office with Mafu. I have gone through the archives to try and get even the results of that course but there is nothing, our administrator Prosper Kwenda has also been busy going through the archives without success. We need to find out exactly what happened, that course was funded remember,” said Mazhambe.
Matabeleland North Soccer Coaches Association chairman Bonda could not give a satisfactory response to the chaos and distanced himself from the whole drama.
“What is the fuss about all this honestly, only the national association issues the certificates and I have nothing to do with that. It was an arrangement by donors, it did not come through my office, why am I to answer,” said Bonda.
However, it has since emerged that Bonda was in attendance.
