THE Binga Sports Development Association, whose main objective is to empower the people of Binga, will be officially launched in December.
The event, which will see participants battle it out in various sporting disciplines that include football and volleyball, is earmarked for Binga High School from 3 to 5 December.
“The whole district zones will be competing. We are therefore appealing to scouts and veteran football administrators such as Gibson Homela and Sunday Chidzambwa to come in their numbers to scout for talent. Most of the administrators overlook us here because they think we don’t have talent. They should come and witness what will be on display here,’’ said Brighton Samhungu, the associations’ spokesperson.
“The main objective is to empower the Binga community through sports by creating an enabling platform ideal for Government and other relevant authorities to come in and support our developmental programmes. We also intend to come up with initiatives for proper management of sporting events, which will make it easier for other well-wishers to buy in.
“The launch shall also provide opportunities for identifying and nurture potential home-grown Binga talent and marketing such finished products at a higher level such as the Premier League. This launch will also mark the introduction of Division 2 Soccer League in Binga,’’ said Samhungu.
Samhungu said since the association was at infancy stage, it lacked adequate resources.
“So we are appealing for assistance from the Sports Ministry as well as well-wishers for us to stage a successful launch. We can be contacted at [email protected] or cell 0713557092,’’ he said.
