Binga villagers arrested for murder

Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Billie Dube confirmed the incident, which he said happened on 12 December, at about 6pm at Pununikile Investments, Makindi Business Centre where there was an end of the year social soccer party.

He said five suspects were in custody while two others are still at large.

“The now deceased Emmanuel Mutali and seven suspects were celebrating the end of the year soccer season at Pununikile Investments, Makindi Business Centre when a misunderstanding broke out between Edison Mukombwe and Mathew Mwende for yet unknown reasons,” said Insp Dube.

He said Mutali and other villagers, who included Nomsa Mudenda (23), Ian Matanga (24), Diamond Mukombwe (27) and Jeffrey Siamutukwa (28), intervened and tried to stop the fight.

“During that commotion, Mutali is suspected to have been struck with a log on the back of his head by an unidentified person and he fell down and lost consciousness. Mudenda and other villagers then carried Mutali and left him at his homestead, which is about a kilometre from the business centre.                  However, at about 6.30pm, Mutali died while at his homestead,” said Insp Dube.
