IT continues to get better for Manica Diamonds forward, Fortune Binzi, who is leading the race for the Golden Boot with six goals in eight matches.
He was the hero when the Gem Boys salvaged a 2-2 draw against champions FC Platinum last weekend at Mandava.
His late effort sealed a priceless point for the visitors.
Binzi was initially signed as part of a back-up plan for the veteran forward, Donald Ngoma.
And, despite his poor show last season at Yadah Stars, where he was on the score sheet just three times, Binzi has taken over his new team’s scoring burden by netting half of what his teammates have managed.
And, coach Jairos Tapera told H-Metro, Ngoma has started training, which should be a boost for the Mutare side.
They are making a good case for themselves in their fight for the championship sitting just three points off the mark set by the leaders.
Tapera highlighted what he feels to be Binzi’s strength.
“I’m happy for him that he has been providing the important goals for us and it’s good for his progress as a footballer who aspires to take his career to greater heights.
“I believe he will be a regular scorer for us as he is someone who makes my job easier because he pays attention to detail.
“He is one of the best strikers I have worked with because he listens to every instruction and that’s his biggest strength,” said Tapera.
The former Triangle coach said Ngoma will be thrust back into the first XI once he gets back on his feet.
“He remains one of our key players, Ngoma has started training, which is a boost for us but I expect him to be fully fit next week.
“I will not have a problem to play Ngoma and Binzi in the same line-up because they have different capabilities, which is to our advantage.
“Binzi is still young and I’m sure Ngoma will have a key role to play in helping his colleague to become a fine player,” said Tapera.
Manica Diamonds will host Chicken Inn at Gibbo this Saturday.
