HWANGE players and coaches were stunned after the club’s leadership decided to give them their winning bonuses despite losing 0-3 to Bulawayo Chiefs last Sunday.
It was Chipangano’s first match at Colliery in this campaign.
They got the nod from ZIFA to return to their fortress having temporarily played their home fixtures in Bulawayo.
It was also the first Premiership game at the Colliery since 2018.
Coach Nation Dube’s defensive unit made three howlers which saw them lose their second match on the bounce.
Before this fixture, they had lost 0-1 to Highlanders.
The team’s leadership called for an emergency meeting, after the loss to Chiefs before a decent crowd.
One senior player, Shepard Gadzikwa, revealed to H-Metro that each player was handed US$200 as reward for their spirited performance despite a heavy home defeat.
Chipangano are visiting the capital for a date against CAPS United on Sunday.
They will be hoping Brighton Makopa, who once led the race for the Golden Boot this season, finds his scoring touch again as the coalminers have been short of goals of late.
“Everyone was in disbelief and, for a moment, we thought they were going to ask us to return the money because it was just unbelievable.
“But, as players, we have now challenged ourselves to repay the love and support which our bosses showed because what they did rarely happens in this world.
“It’s now our task to push to the limit and I’m happy that our bosses saw that we tried even though it wasn’t enough but they appreciated it.
“We are going to give our best against CAPS United, not that we have been reserving anything for them but it didn’t feel right to receive a winning bonus after losing. Everyone is saying the same thing, we are all geared up to get a positive result against a team which has been doing well.
“It’s not going to be easy but, if we are to fail, I think a point will do justice to our wishes.”
