Birth of a new melody

Although many in music circles may not know or remember her, Loice is slightly tall and light skinned, sings with a distinctive high soprano, but perhaps what makes her voice such a marvel to listen to is the fact that it comes out naturally when she performs on stage.

Apart from that, her debut six-track love songs album titled “Wabata Moyo Wangu”, which was released last October, displays maturity in the artiste herself as it talks about the beauty of love and the need for faithfulness among couples both married and unmarried.
Recorded at Metro Studios, the album carries tracks such as “Wabata Moyo Wangu”, “Wazadzikisa”, “Don’t Break my Heart”, “Take Me Away”, “If I Had Wings” and “Love Song”.

Commenting on her music, Loice – who is 23 years old and a food marketer with a local food manufacturing company – said she composed her album with a view to respond to problems of unfaithfulness and lack of love in relationships and marriages among couples.

“One of the reasons I composed this album was that I had noticed that people these days are hardly faithful to each other. There is a lot of cheating going on in relationships and among married couples,” said Loice.

She added that she attends church at United Ambassadors of Christ Church but being a baptised Christian did not restrain her from coming up with a love songs album since love is a reality of life and that every human being experiences love in every aspect of their lives.

She said her album promoted love and faithfulness which she described as important pillars necessary for building successful relationships and marriages and also protects married couples against sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV and Aids.

“The reason why faithfulness is so important among couples is that couples are safe from HIV and for this reason it saves families. Love and faithfulness should start even when people are still dating. This will create a strong foundation for successful marriages.”

“Love is not earthly or a human creation. It is spiritual and that is why couples need to be faithful to each other. Even the Bible says God is love and for this reason couples must love each other,” she said.

She said this time around she was working on her second 10-track gospel album titled “Totenda Ishe” which she said was aimed at remind people that this world is passing away.

Loice said different forms of wickedness happening everywhere coupled with strange miracles, diseases and deaths affecting people these days inspired her to compose a gospel album.

“The reason why I am working on this gospel album was because I realised that this world is passing-by. There are people I grew up with who are no longer alive and some are not in the best of health. Sometimes we hear of strange miracles. All this shows we are going somewhere. The album also educates youths to live a prayerful life,” she said.

Although she could not say when her album will be released, Loice said she is currently working on her sixth track but added that the album will be released anytime this year.
On this album, Loice also said she is being assisted by a United States-based group Innovators but added that her album will be influenced by artistes and groups like Michael W. Smith, Sinach from Christ Embassy Church and Hillsong Music whose music inspired her.

Commenting on how she discovered her vocal talent, Loice said it all started when she was still a primary school pupil when her Grade Three teacher identified her talent and encouraged her to sing in the school choir.

When she was Form Three, in high school, she experimented with writing songs of her own which she also sang in church.
She added that she gained a lot from the support she received from her former high school friend Lucy Nasho, and after high school, her brother who is also her pastor at United Ambassadors of Christ believed in her talent and encouraged her to record her songs.
