Instead of praying for them, he preys on them.
This is the story of a Bishop at the Zion Church in Bulawayo who has appeared in court facing charges of indecently assaulting three female congregants.
Bishop Danny Mlilo appeared before Western magistrate Lenear Khumalo facing three counts of indecent assault.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody to 12 March.
On the first count, the 21-year-old victim testified in court that sometime in November 2021, R3 000 went missing from her grandparents’ home.
Coincidentally, Mlilo visited the family around that time and they informed him about the missing money.
The victim alleged Mlilo questioned her and instructed her to meet him in town to talk about the missing money.

On the following day, they went to a local hotel room that the bishop locked.
Mlilo is alleged to have fondled her breasts and private parts. After that, he kissed her while begging to have sex with her.
The court heard that the bishop left for the bathroom and returned wearing only boxer shorts.
He reportedly touched the victim while begging her to have sex with him.
The woman, however, allegedly rejected his advances. He then reportedly offered her R200 to keep quiet about the incident.
Following this, the woman left for home.
It is said each time he visited the woman’s grandparents he would fondle her breasts and buttocks.
She reported the incident to her grandparents and later filed a police report.
The court heard that in the same year, the accused targeted an 18-year-old orphan and promised to assist with her educational needs.
The alleged victim claims that Mlilo frequently visited her home under the guise of seeing her guardians.
Whenever he found her alone, he allegedly fondled her breasts and private parts.
The victim further claims that during church prayer sessions, Mlilo would lead her to a secluded room and under the pretence of praying for her, allegedly caressed her privates.
The victim added that the experience caused her immense suffering and ultimately led her to cease attending church. The matter has since been reported to the police.
