Bittersweet 2020 for Gumbe in 2020

Sports Reporter
DYLAN GUMBE, the player in the eye of a storm after Dynamos’ disqualification from the Marvelous Nakamba youth tournament, once had a chance to join a South African academy two years ago.

He was one of four Zimbabwean aspiring footballers who were offered a chance to train with Sporting Clube de Portugal Soccer School in Johannesburg.

The others were Alvin Dube, Talent Mwenga and Oscar Magejo.

They spent 10 days at the club after having gone there on a ticket sponsored by Academy 2063.

They even had a chance to get some tips from Khama Billiat during their stay in South Africa.

It appeared to be a breakthrough year for Gumbe as he was named in the Zimbabwe Under-17 team for the COSAFA championships, in South Africa, the same year.

Gumbe played the first game, which ended in a 1-1 draw with Angola, with Dube replacing him in the 46th minute.

However, the tour ended in disgrace when the Young Warriors were expelled for age-cheating.
