According to Mlamleli Dombane Ncube, a former Zimbabwe Saints and Hwange striker, who is working alongside Biya and Hlanganani Ngwenya, the four teams will be selected from New Magwegwe, Luveve, Gwabalanda and Cowdray Park suburbs with Amakhosi Grounds in Gwabalanda chosen as the venue for the tournament. The former Highlanders, Under-23 and Senior National team captain is working in conjunction with a United States based charity organisation, Soccer4life that has a Christian background.
In its official website, the organisation posted; “Former Highlanders F.C. and Zimbabwe National Soccer Team captain ‘Biya’ is travelling to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe to conduct and oversee a four-team Under 16 Boys’ Tournament that is scheduled for 22December, 2012.
He is accompanied by Mlamleli “Dombane” Ncube, a former top striker with Zimbabwe Saints F.C. Soccer4life strives to impact the lives of children through the beautiful game of soccer. It is the passion of Biya, and the Soccer4life staff to make a change in the lives of the ones we come in contact with. The tournament participants are, Gwabalanda, Cowdry Park, Luveve, and New Magwegwe.”
In an interview Mlamleli said all the participating teams will get full kits with winners guaranteed prize money as well as individual prizes for the excelling players.
“The objective is to give young players an opportunity to expose and explore their talents. Biya has been requested by some American colleges to scout for talented youngsters,” said Ncube, from his South African base yesterday.
Excelling youngsters are likely to get scholarships to study in the US.
Biya was part of the all conquering Highlanders squad that won four back to back league titles from 1999 to 2002 under Rahman Gumbo and the late Briton Eddie May.
