Black Coffee in no show

THE much awaited DJ Black Coffee show on Unity Day did not take place as the DJ was a no show claiming he missed his flight into the country from Bloemfontein, South Africa.It is not clear whether Black Coffee was playing in the Free State but what is true is that he did not pitch up for the show.

The mood outside Horizon Pub and Restaurant was sombre to say the least as fans milled around contemplating their next move.
Night spots such as BAC and Eden Bar were empty as fans made a bee line to Horizon for the much hyped show.

In an apology on his Facebook page at 9pm Black Coffee said: “I regret to announce that due to transport related difficulties I was not able to travel to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe for a show at Horizon. Please accept both mine and 3D Events’ sincere apologies . . . we will be in touch with a new date shortly.”

Fans had mixed reactions with some hurling insults at him and some accepting his apology. One of the fans Mduduzi Quellar Thebza wrote: “eish at least are apologising tho dissapointed we appreciate it please do come and light Bulawayo up.”

Former radio personality Ezra “Tshisa” Sibanda wrote on his Facebook page: “It is reported from Black Coffee’s camp that he missed his flight from eMzansi to . . . Bulawayo and they apologise to the promoters and the fans in Bulawayo. Black Coffee’s management say they will confirm the new dates soon but the big question is who will compensate 3D for their loss and inconvenience caused to their loyal fans. Obviously the Diaspora Zimbabweans who wanted to watch him perform will also miss out, that’s bad!”

A clearly disappointed director of the show, Mduduzi Mdlongwa, of 3D Events Management Company said the show had cost him $12,000. He said they had booked Black Coffee as far back as August this year.

“We had been cleared by relevant authorities for the show to take place and we lost a lot of money through advertising, bookings, flights and marketing,” he said.

Mdlongwa said to book Black Coffee they needed to pay $5,000 upfront before anything else, which they did.
“We are very sorry to the Bulawayo fans for what happened. As you know 3D Events has never disappointed and we strive to keep up that reputation,” he said.

Bulawayo’s premium disc jockeys, who took over the show, include high flying DJ Mzoe, crowned Bulawayo’s best in the Miller Golden Circle DJs challenge held two weeks ago, Djembe Monks, Keezy, Kead Wikead and Joe Tha OG.
