Preparations for Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe are gathering momentum with the grand finale date set for May 31 at the Reps Theatre.
Now in its second year, the contest is running under the theme “Shungu dzemwoyo, Izifiso zenhliziyo, Kick-start your dreams”.
Tanaka Ngorora, the spokesperson for the contest, said preparations were taking shape.
“The day is drawing closer and so far we have contestants who were chosen since November last year while three finalists for this February are going to be selected this Saturday.”
Since November last year pageant organisers have been selecting three finalists with the highest votes in each month.
“In each month we have been selecting three finalists and only 15 will go through to finals on May 31.
Big prizes are to be won including cash and it is going to be big and better as we are trying to empower ladies with a well packaged event,” said Ngorora.
“The door is still open for those who want to enter the competition.
To enter the competition, one has to buy Black Opal products worth US$30 including any colour product like lipstick and mascara.
“Thereafter, attach an A6 size photo of your face only and receipt to the entry form. We will then decide which photos qualify to be in competition for that month,” he said.
At the grand finale people would be entertained by different artistes.
“There will be a lot of surprises on that day with entertainment coming from our local upcoming and established artistes,” he said.
The queen will walk away with US$8 000, first runner-up will get US$4 000 while the second runner-up will get US$2 000.
Participating outlets include Truworths, Edgars, Jet, Barbours, Greatermans and selected pharmacies countrywide.
Last year, 19-year-old Betty Moyo of Chitungwiza won the title and got a trip for two to New York for a week and US$3 000 cash prize.
