Black Rhinos crowned women’s soccer champs

Rhinos finished at the top of the log with 46 points and no loss, with four draws and 14 wins while second placed Mufakose ended on 38 points.
Mufakose lost four matches in the league one of which, against Inline Academy, they boycotted and the points were awarded to their opponents.

Inline, who are third on the log, failed to turn up for two matches against Black Rhinos and another against Mufakose and they lost six points. They finished the league on 37 points with just one point separating them from second-placed Mufakose.
New Orleans were fifth on the log as they finished the season with 33 points, from nine wins and six draws.

However, sources within the women’s league believe that there would be no monetary rewards for the winners as the executive failed to get sponsorship.
The source said when they started the league they were told that there would be sponsorship for the league.
“We were told that the league had sponsorship. At the moment we believe that there will be no monetary rewards for the teams in the league. Let alone the Soccer Star of the Year. Some officials were told that this will be done next year,'” said the source.

The Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer Association posted on their Facebook page: “The Zimbabwe National Women Super League calling on people to vote for their Soccer Star of the Year”.
This was, however, not well received by some officials who believe that the voting would be marred by a number of factors including the fact that some of the voters did not watch a number of matches.

The nominations have 23 players from the 10 teams in the league and some of the players that were nominated include Erina Jeche, Judith Lunga, Rudo Neshamba, Thelma Tamirepi, Melody Musasa, Talent Mandaza, Ntombiyelanga Ndlovu and Ovidy Karuru’s sibling Charity.
