Black Rhinos thrash Masvingo Queens

they thrashed winless Masvingo Queens 9-0 at 2 Brigade.
After making way for the Cosafa Women Championships, the league, which is played fortnightly, resumed at the weekend.

The army side has started brightly in the newly formed league managing two wins and a draw.
In the opening week Black Rhinos walloped Gweru based Chipembere Queens 12-0 before managing a 1-1 draw with Mufakose Queens.
But on Saturday they got their shooting boots again with Faith Sameade scoring a hat-trick while Mighty Warriors midfielder Talent Mandaza scored two goals.

Rhinos Shupi Juwawo also had a brace while Mighty Warriors fringe striker Kuda Basopo and former Mighty Warriors midfielder Aldgrade Bhamu added a goal each.
However, Black Rhinos coach Thomas Chinyan’ana was not blowing the horns despite the bright start.

“We have started well but the national team commitments are interfering with our programme. I am happy with the way we are scoring but I am aware that the competition will get tougher and will not continue to win with these margins. We are yet to meet other competitive teams in the league,” said Chinyan’ana.

Cosa Guruve, which is based at Mudhindo Township, won their first match this season when they subdued Chipembere Queens 4-0 at Madhodha stadium at Guruve Centre.
In the previous game they lost 9-0 to visiting Cyclone Stars.
Cosa Guruve striker Locadia Mugavazi scored a brace while Shamiso Mbanje and Brenda Mupfurutsa scored one each.

Technical Director Actmore Chatyoka said his team is now adjusting to the levels in the league.
“We lost 5-0 to New Orleans in our opening match and lost to Cyclone but we were later awarded the match.

“The team is shaping up and the girls are geared because they are being exposed to the platform for the first time.
“We are a team from a rural setup and everyone is excited to be travelling to places. And also the players want to impress and be selected into the national team age groups.

“We even noticed an improvement in the supporters after the Mighty Warriors performance at the tournament and our weekend match had about 800 fans and they even want to accompany the team to Harare in our next fixture,” said Chatyoka.

Cosa Guruve is sponsored by Conduit Investments and their aim is to have at least two players getting a national team call up.
Second-placed Mufakose Queens also continued with their unbeaten run in the league when they dismissed Faith Drive Queens 6-0 at Sakubva on Sunday.
National Under-20 coach Langton Giwa’s charges got their goals through Mighty Warriors defender Ruvimbo Mutyavaviri, defender Faith Chasi, Mighty Warriors midfielder Emmaculate Msipa and strikers Florence

Maponga and Rutendo Madongorere. Their other strike was own goal by Faith Drive.
Shadreck Mlauzi’s Inline Academy bounced back to winning ways after they beat visiting Cyclone Stars 4-0 at Baham Green Sports Club.
Mighty Warriors striker Rudo Neshamba, and midfielders Judith Lunga, Fundile Moyo and Fiona Chingwe scored a goal each.

While the league has managed to play three rounds of matches the clubs are still struggling to cope with the financial demands and have called on the corporate world to partner the Girl Child.
Southern Region chairperson Elizabeth Langa said clubs are struggling to meet accommodation and transport costs.

“Our clubs are owned by individuals and are digging into their pockets with the executive contributing towards transport travel and camping costs.
“If we continue to run the league without a sponsor teams might end up travelling to matches and returning on the same day which is not healthy for athletes and may cause accidents travelling at night.

“Even the men’s league which has some gate takings are also encountering the same problems of viability but at least can afford to pay the players something,” said Langa.
Northern Region chairperson Tamba Munemo said if the league fails to find a sponsor, some clubs may fail to fulfill matches in the second round.

“We believe women’s football has shown everyone that it is worth partnering with after the conquest by the Mighty Warriors.
“And we believe if the corporate world partners the girl child they would get good mileage. If we can get companies, which can help us with transport and accommodation to fulfil our matches, it would go a long way.

“If it is possible we could play as curtain raisers in the PSL league matches.
“But we are aware that certain beliefs are associated with women sharing the pitch with the men’s teams,” said Munemo.

Eastern region chairperson Rose Muzvidziwa said they have nothing to offer to the girls after league’s matches.
