Black to officially open Leopard Rock tennis courts

ZIMBABWEAN tennis legend Wayne Black will this coming week officially open Leopard Rock tennis courts in Vumba. Black, a former member of the Zimbabwe Davis Cup team which played in the World Group towards the end of the 1990s, will together with his wife Irena offer coaching clinics during their visit of the Eastern Highlands.

Leopard Rock is famed for its golf course, but the tennis courts which were under construction in the past years are almost complete and the organisers have seen it fit to have Black commission the courts.

To spice up the official opening of the tennis courts, the same club will, through Leopard Rock general manager Brian Rocher, hold some golf clinics as well.

According to the Leopard Rock hotel’s Facebook page, Black and his wife will conduct free tennis coaching clinics.

Meanwhile, Danielle Bekker was crowned winner at the 2015 Nomads Western Province Junior Golf Championships which were held at Durbanville Golf Club in Durban, South Africa, at the weekend.

The golf sensation who represented the country at the Malaysia Kids Golf managed to win the Under-16 event by four shots in a field that had several top juniors.

The 11-year-old is now playing off 10 handicap in the B-Division.

The two events fall under the Woman Golf South Africa (WGSA) Under-16 girls tournaments.

Bekker took part in the Boland Junior Challenge at Paarl Golf Club where she came out second, despite losing by five strokes.

Bekker teed off on a negative note beginning with a quadruple bogey, a triple bogey, and a double — dropping nine shots in the first three holes to finish 47 for the front nine having settled after her challenging start.

It was at the back nine where the Cathy Riley coached player returned a 36 showing her resolve to come back to an 83 after the terrible start.

The wind was worse in the afternoon and it showed in her score when she shot 87 — but her 83 & 87 = 170 still got her a win with a four shot lead. She now looks forward to the Mashonaland East and West Ladies Open Championship being hosted at Ruwa on January 31 to February 1.

Bekker will also travel to South Africa to participate in the Gauteng North Junior Girls Open Championship in Centurion — and the Border Championship in East London.
