The response has been positive particularly in South Africa, where BlackBerry has the lion’s share of the smartphone market.
“We have seen strong demand and interest from South African consumers in the BlackBerry Z10. We believe that BlackBerry 10 delivers on consumers’ needs for a new unique mobile experience,” said Zagury.
The Z10 hit local shores at the end of January, coinciding with the launch of the new operating system.
The recently introduced Q10, Zagury forecast, was building on that success. The BlackBerry Q10 smartphone combines BlackBerry’s best physical keyboard and a touch screen with the power of the BlackBerry 10 platform to help customers communicate and collaborate faster and more efficiently.
“The BlackBerry Q10 looks set to perform as strongly, though we do not provide regional sales forecasts or breakdowns,” Zagury said.
She said both BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 were built with precision saying the two smartphone devices were also offering premium performance in a timeless design. He reiterated confidence the operating system will help revive the company’s fortunes after years playing second fiddle to rival makers.
