Award-winning gospel musician Blessing Shumba continues to live up to his billing as a voice of the voiceless after he recently called on employers to award domestic workers what they deserve. The Mutare-based gospel singer made the statement during the launch of Destiny Church International held in Unit B, Chitungwiza recently.

The “Varombo Vachaiteiko?” hit-maker was a guest performer at the three-day crusade of the ministry which is headed by Apostle Chagaka Chagaga.

“Now listen to all you people who have domestic workers, please give these people their dues because they deserve the product of their sweat,” he said to great applause from crowd.

The singer then went straight into one of his popular songs “Kudenga Kuna Mwari” in which he warns that bad things that people do are recorded in Heaven.

Shumba also urged people not to discriminate against the physically challenged since they also fall in the same bracket with poor people.

“The blind, the deaf and mute, the physically-challenged as well as those who are ailing all need our care,” said Shumba, who has songs like “Kurwa Kwakanaka”, “Titeme Timene” and “Shongwe to his name. The Buhera-bred singer launched his fifth album entitled Calvary earlier this year which features his wife Pauline.

The album has songs like “Matatenda”, “Zvikomborero”, “Move Mountains”, “Anoziva Chakanaka” and “Eli Hossana”.

He attributed his success in the competitive genre to his ability to compose songs with messages, which he said can transform people’s lives while standing the test of time.

Meanwhile, the founder of Destiny Church International Apostle Chagaga took time to explain the meaning of their theme which was running under “A Prophetic Word for Zimbabwe”.

“This is an apolitical message since Christians are always divorced from worldly issues. However, the choice of the theme came about after we resolved that as believers in the world of God, we need to contribute positively to the well-being of the nation,” he said.
