FOLLOWING a weekend of both business and pleasure, Super Rugby side Blue Bulls are expected to jet into Harare tomorrow evening from Victoria Falls.
The Blue Bulls arrived in Zimbabwe yesterday, their first port of call being Victoria Falls ahead of the Lafarge Zimbabwe Champions Cup against the Toyota Cheetahs who are expected in the country on Friday.
In Victoria Falls, the Bulls took time out to enjoy a sunset cruise yesterday, but will get down to business today when they have an all-day team activity session ahead of a 45-minute Old Mutual training clinic tomorrow morning.
Then the Bulls will connect to Harare tomorrow evening and it is in the capital that they will conduct at least three training clinics with the city’s junior rugby players. As part of their tour of Zimbabwe, the Bulls of South Africa will hold several coaching clinics in Harare, before clashing with countrymen Toyota Cheetahs next Saturday at the National Sports Stadium.
The Pretoria-based side arrived in the country eight days before their scheduled clash with the Cheetahs in the Lafarge Zimbabwe Champions Cup — and will spend some of that time with the youth of local rugby.
A full strength side that includes 13 capped Springboks, Dean Greyling, Werner Kruger, Trevor Nyakane, Marcel van der Merwe, Banise Maku, Adriaan Strauss, Arno Botha, Rudy Paige, Piet van Zyl, Handre Pollard, Jesse Kriel and Bjorn Basson — will impart some of their skills with the Harare youths.
According to Kudakwashe “Kisset” Chirengende, who is the founder and director of Kyros Sports, the clinics are lined up for Chitungwiza, Prince Edward and Mabvuku.
However, it is also understood that due to other commitments the Cheetahs will only be in the country on Friday.
And to show how serious the Cheetahs are taking their pre-season game against the Bulls, coach Franco Smith exchanged some notes with Springbok assistant coach Johann van Graan who was part of their training session on Thursday.
