BN Academy technical director Tatenda Nyoni says they are pleased with the way their players fared during trials at German lower division football team VfB Lubeck last month, as two of them will be returning to the club for further assessment later in the year.
The quartet of Nigel Mutsonziwa, Ellson Mweha, Mathew Nzewi and Tyron Matongorere went for trials at VfB Lubeck last month, where they had the opportunity to train and go through some drills under the guidance of the club’s Under-19 coach Christopher Oelsehlaegel.
They also worked with Roco Lesser, who is a technical director for several academies in Lubeck, assessing their technical abilities and skills.
Former Warriors defender George Mbwando once had a stint with VfB Lubeck, having joined them in 2000.
Two of them — Mutsonziwa (16) and Mweha (18) — will be going back for further evaluation with the junior teams at the club in December and Nyoni, who accompanied the four players to Germany last month, said they are happy with the development.
“So from the four players, there were two that were outstanding, Nigel and Ellson. So they have been invited back in December for further evaluation. Then the other two, we will continue working with them and see if there are other opportunities that can be created.
“The coaches talked about the attitude of the players because they gave examples of players that have been to the club in the past, very good players, but said most of the time it’s the attitude that’s important.
“The coaches were impressed with our boys, they were on time for practice and always organised.
“They were even saying if the boys can cope like that and develop with this mentality, it’s something that they can take forward and become better players,” said Nyoni.
