Boarding master fired for stealing beast

A CHIBUWE High School boarding master in Chipinge is facing stock theft charges after he stole a school beast and exchanged it with a smaller one for personal gain.He has since been fired for misconduct.

Noah Manyadza, was set to appear at the Chipinge Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday on stock theft charges, but the case failed to take off after one of the State witnesses changed statements in an alleged bid to cover up the case.

Mr Charles Siyapeya, who is the deputy headmaster allegedly undermined the criminal element of the case by changing initial statements he had given investigating officers.

He tried to absolve the boarding master.

The matter was adjourned to a later day and Manyadza would be served by way of summons through his lawyers from Chibaya and Partners Legal Practitioners.

According to disciplinary hearing papers which this paper has, it is alleged that on March 20, Manyadza exchanged the school’s beast with a smaller one without the school’s authority.

It is alleged that on that date, Manyadza was expressly told by Mr Siyapeya not to exchange the beast, but he defied the instruction.

Manyadza was alleged to have contravened Section 4 (a) of the National Employment Code of Conduct Statutory, Instrument 15 in that he committed an act of misconduct in violation of the conditions of his contract as boarding master.

His duty was to locate beasts for purchase and negotiate prices in the presence of administration staff. He was also expected to weigh and record the mass for each beast slaughtered at the school.

He, however, denied the charges saying he never breached any provisions of his employment code of conduct.

Manyadza was dismissed from Chibuwe High School as a boarding master with effect from May 20 after he was found guilty of contravening the National Employment Code of Conduct.

He was advised to appeal to a higher authority if he was not happy with the determination.

Manyadza through his lawyers appealed against both the sentence and conviction but his case was dismissed.

Chibuwe High School was represented by Mr Langton Mhungu of Matutu, Kwirira and Associates Law Firm.
