A 50-year-old man from Bikita in Masvingo suspected to have mubobobo was allegedly fatally assaulted by fellow imbibers after “provocatively” telling them that their wives belonged to him, police confirmed yesterday. Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero said the incident happened on Friday at about 8pm.
He identified the man as Wilson Mabanga of Takaendesa Village under Chief Mukanganwi.

He said the two suspects were in police custody assisting with investigations.
Mabanga’s body is at Silveira Mission Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

“I can confirm that a man from Bikita was fatally assaulted by fellow patrons,” he said.
According to witnesses, Silence Chandirekera (22) and  Rekai Mabanga (40) were drinking traditional beer with Wilson Mabanga at Mr Hwedha Gumbere’s homestead in Mandivenga Village.

At about 8pm, Wilson Mabanga told Rekai Mabanga and Chandirekera that their wives were his.
That angered the two as Wilson was believed to possess magical powers known as mubobobo, which enables one to have sex with women without their knowledge.

Rekai Mabanga and Chandirekera used a log to assault Wilson until he became unconscious.
Rekai reported the matter to a  neighbourhood watch committee member, Mr Walter Ganya of Hore Village.
Mr Ganya teamed up with other villagers and rushed Wilson to hospital where he died on admission.
