Bob@90 b’ball begins

ALL is set for the second edition of the year’s Bob@90 basketball tournament, which gets underway at several venues in the capital this morning, with JBC director Simba Mugonzo hopeful his side will do well.
The tournament will be spread across different venues — the City Sports Centre, Hellenics, University of Zimbabwe, Queen Elizabeth and Girls High School courts.
The tournament uses basketball to celebrate the birthday of President Mugabe and this year’s tourney is expected to be bigger, and more competitive, as foreign teams are scheduled to grace the competition.

Mugonzo said they wanted to give defending champions Cameo a good run.
“We have been working very hard preparing and everyone is ready for the tournament which has seen the level of competition increasing significantly this year with the foreign flavour.

“We are looking forward to dominating this year as the defending champions Cameo will not field a women’s team this time around,” said Mugonzo.
Four Zambian clubs — Matero Magic, University of Zambia, Looters and Shells — are expected in Harare for this year’s tourney.

Defending champions Cameo, JBC, Cheetahs, Mavericks, Highlanders, Masonries and Unicorn from Gweru are expected to fly the national flag.
Arcadia Bucs, Drifters, South Central and Real Returners will engage in warm-up matches before the tournament.
