Bobby Motaung walks free as Hawks, NPA play blame game

Kaizer Chiefs boss Bobby Motaung walked free as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the Hawks blamed each other over the botched fraud and corruption case against him.

The NPA confirmed to the Sowetan that the cases against Motaung and his co-accused had been closed due lack of evidence.

Motaung and his business partneraï¿½s Herbert Thelediaï¿½s and Chris Gribaï¿½s the CEO of Lefika Emerging Equityaï¿½s were all charged in 2012 of using a false tax clearance certificate when they bid for the tender to design the Mbombela Stadium.

They were also accused of forging a Mbombela Municipality letter to secure a R1-million overdraft and stealing R143-million.

Former Mbombela municipal manager Jacob Dladlaaï¿½s Ehlanzeni District Municipality technical manager Tebogo Kubeka and Gripaï¿½ï¿½s lawyer and Lefikaaï¿½ï¿½s compliance officer Michael Ramos were also charged.

After a number of hurdlesaï¿½s the Hawks said it had given the outcomes of it investigations to the NPA and the latter aï¿½?decided not to prosecuteaï¿½?.

Howeveraï¿½s NPA regional spokesperson Monica Nyuswa said instructions from the lead prosecutor to the investigating officer were not carried outaï¿½s aï¿½?rendering the available evidence insufficientaï¿½?.
