Kaizer Chiefs boss Bobby Motaung walked free as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the Hawks blamed each other over the botched fraud and corruption case against him.
The NPA confirmed to the Sowetan that the cases against Motaung and his co-accused had been closed due lack of evidence.
Motaung and his business partnera�s Herbert Theledia�s and Chris Griba�s the CEO of Lefika Emerging Equitya�s were all charged in 2012 of using a false tax clearance certificate when they bid for the tender to design the Mbombela Stadium.
They were also accused of forging a Mbombela Municipality letter to secure a R1-million overdraft and stealing R143-million.
Former Mbombela municipal manager Jacob Dladlaa�s Ehlanzeni District Municipality technical manager Tebogo Kubeka and Gripa��s lawyer and Lefikaa��s compliance officer Michael Ramos were also charged.
After a number of hurdlesa�s the Hawks said it had given the outcomes of it investigations to the NPA and the latter a�?decided not to prosecutea�?.
Howevera�s NPA regional spokesperson Monica Nyuswa said instructions from the lead prosecutor to the investigating officer were not carried outa�s a�?rendering the available evidence insufficienta�?.
