Bulawayo-based Gospel musician Matthew Chishumba, popularly known as Devotion C, has rebranded to Vodloza as he seeks to take his music career to greater heights.
The musician unveiled his new identity through a performance at Glamis Arena in Harare during the ZAOGA Forward in Faith Legacy National Big Sunday.
Dressed in a shiny brown-beige suit, which he described as prophetic and symbolic of his new season, Vodloza stood out from the crowd, most of whom were dressed in white.
What was meant to be a few minutes on stage turned into a memorable performance, with the crowd singing along to his hit song, Stimela Sezulu (The Rapture).
The song speaks about the rapture and the second coming of Jesus Christ to take believers to heaven.
Vodloza said his new outfit was more than a fashion statement, describing it as a symbol of his new name and prophetic season as he works on his upcoming album, Zvakange Zvisipo.
“The name Vodloza was given to me by a music fan who said, ‘You make things flow and bulldoze effortlessly.’ This inspired me to take up the name as it shows the greatness of my art.
“I am happy with the direction of my career where, as a versatile vocalist who sings in Ndebele, Shona and English, I have managed to break tribal and language barriers to reach every soul,” he said.
The upcoming project will follow his latest 10-track album, Back to Basic, which features songs such as Kumberi, a track centred on prophetic declarations.
The album is receiving airplay on Star FM and other radio stations across the country.
Vodloza said Zvakange Zvisipo will be a prophetic gospel project featuring four songs already recorded — Zvakange Zvisipo (Genesis 1:3), 12 Prophetic Gates (Psalms 37:25), Prophetic Faith (Isaiah 3:10) and Prophetic Oil Bearer (1 Samuel 16:13).
“I am not stopping. I will bulldoze my way left, right and centre, like I prophesied on the song Kumberi. I want to step out of my comfort zone and release a five-track love album which showcases versatility, adaptability and creativity,” said Vodloza.
Recently, the musician travelled to various cities, including Kwekwe, where he was a guest performer at the ZAOGA Hebron CE Chapel official launch.
Vodloza said he was now focusing on concerts, ministering across cities through live worship and using music to win souls.
The musician was mentored by Lovemore Kenneth Gunda and Jeys Marabini.
