THE Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has condemned the suspected murder of its member, Surprise Moyo, whose body was recently discovered in a ditch in Mbundane, almost three years after he went missing.
Moyo had reportedly been missing since October 2023, with his disappearance raising concern among his family, friends and fellow party members who had continued searching for him.
His death has brought renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, particularly allegations that he had been targeted during the period of political tensions following the 2023 elections.
In a statement mourning his death, the CCC described Moyo as a dedicated member who remained committed to the party and its work.
The party condemned the latest development and expressed condolences to Moyo’s family, friends and fellow members, saying his death was a painful loss to the organisation.
The discovery of Moyo’s remains has also brought fresh anguish to his family, who had spent years hoping that he would eventually be found alive.
Moyo’s disappearance had previously been linked by his associates to political tensions surrounding his activities as a CCC supporter. His partner, Proud Babazile Tshabalala, had also reportedly endured repeated raids at their home after authorities and suspected Zanu-PF supporters allegedly accused the couple of hosting political gatherings.
The raids reportedly intensified after Moyo was arrested, with his whereabouts subsequently becoming unknown.
Tshabalala’s relatives previously raised concerns over her safety and alleged that she had been subjected to violence and sexual abuse during some of the incidents. The allegations have not been independently verified.
The discovery of Moyo’s body is now expected to bring renewed calls for a thorough investigation into his disappearance and death.
Police are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding his death, including how long his body had been in the ditch and whether there were any injuries or other evidence pointing to foul play.
The CCC said Moyo’s contribution to the party and his dedication to its cause would not be forgotten.
His death comes as the country continues to grapple with unresolved cases involving people who disappeared amid periods of political tension, with families and human rights groups repeatedly calling for investigations and accountability.
For Moyo’s family, the discovery of his remains may finally provide an answer to a question that has remained unanswered since October 2023 — what happened to him.
