Bodybuilders meet to elect regional office bearers

THE Matabeleland Amateur Bodybuilding Association will this weekend hold an extraordinary general meeting meant to chart the way forward for the organisation that has been without full leadership for the past two seasons.According to the only substantive executive member left, Simon Gama, the meeting will see some candidates nominated to fill vacant posts during the elections in two weeks time.

“The meeting will be at Barberton Gym in the City. We want to plan for the election of a new executive after nearly all executive members resigned due to old age and other commitments,” said Gama, who is the substantive secretary but has since been asked to double up as acting chairman.

The National Association of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness president, Otis Goredema tasked Gama with overseeing the revamping of the discipline in Matabeleland and Bulawayo in particular.

Gama said the meeting was open to all bodybuilding enthusiasts from across the three Matabeleland provinces as well as fitness clubs.
“Those that will be elected will be in office for the next three years,” said Gama, a former bodybuilding champion.

Despite the non-existence of a functioning regional executive, the association managed to have two competitions last year, starting with Mr Bulawayo and then Mr Zimbabwe semi-finals and Gama believes that with a substantive executive, more competitions will be held.

“We have people who are prepared to fund our competitions but are just reluctant because of our own disorganisation.
“Once we get our structures in place those guys will definitely come over and I am confident that after our Saturday meeting, the road will be clearer,” said Gama.
