The formation of Musclemania Zimbabwe comes amid in-house squabbles within the ZNBFA which has seen the association failing to host the premier Mr Zimbabwe over the last two years.
Last year the Sports Commission convened a number meetings to try and revive the administration of the sport which resulted in Kenny Murungweni, Claude Shambare and Godfrey Nyoni running the association on an interim basis.
Fed up with the seemingly lack of progress by ZNBFA, former Scorpion Gym owner Tofara Moyo and some of his colleagues said they have formed the Musclemania Zimbabwe.
“We have formed a new association for bodybuilding in Zimbabwe and its called Musclemania Zimbabwe. It’s our hope to bring active competitions on board for the athletes. We have since submitted our registration to the Sport and Recreation Commission.
“So it’s a new franchise that we have created to run competitions and bring back the enthusiasm,” said Moyo.
Moyo who was the organising secretary for the Harare Provincial Bodybuilding and Fitness Association is now the interim secretary general of the Musclemania Zimbabwe.
“Our president and patron is Oliver Chibage. We are going to hold our first competition which is the Musclemania Zimbabwe on August 4.
“It’s an open contest and we hope to get athletes from Botswana, Zambia and South Africa,” said Moyo.
Moyo said their inaugural competition would be staged at Ochi City, an entertainment centre off the Domboshawa road.
“The challenge now is to get prizes that will spur more athletes to our franchise and we are talking to a number of sponsors. When we hosted the last Iron Man, we gave the winner a car as first prize and the Ms Iron Man got a residential stand.
“So these are the standards we want to maintain,” said Moyo.
The inaugural Musclemania Zimbabwe will see athletes competing in the juniors, lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight categories.
