adminThe prosecutor, Mr Forster Abeki said on 28 December, Takavada connived with accomplices who are still at large and they went to St Mary’s Secondary School. They descended on the complainant’s house and introduced themselves as police officers.
The court heard that the accused person produced a pistol while his accomplices pulled out knives and they robbed the complainant of his household property worth $1 981 and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Soon after committing the offence, they proceeded to a bushy area near the Limpopo River where they spotted three suspected border jumpers who intended to illegally cross into South Africa.
They approached them under the guise of being police officers on border patrol and robbed them of $1 050 before they fled into South Africa through an undesignated entry point.
A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of Takavada. However, the firearm used in commission of the crimes was not recovered and his accomplices are still at large.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old unemployed Beitbridge man was yesterday sentenced to an effective seven months in jail for breaking into a house in the border town and stealing clothes, shoes and toiletries worth $250.
Nqobile Ncube, of no fixed abode, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to unlawful entry by Mr Karidzagundi.
Ncube was sentenced to 12 months in jail of which five months were suspended for five years on condition that he does not within that period commit a similar offence.
The prosecutor, Mr Abeki said on 27 December at around 3pm, Ncube went to the complainant’s house along Pine Road in the border town. He broke a glass door and gained entry into the house and stole an air rifle, one box of washing powder, a bar of soap, a suit, a pair of shoes and uniforms.
Ncube ran out of luck when the complainant spotted him selling the stolen items at a nearby house. He was apprehended by the complainant and taken to the police station leading to the recovery of the goods.
