A BUSINESSMAN lost 158 grammes of gold, cash and other valuables to two bogus cops in Avondale on Sunday.
Tawanda Chinake, 28, of J and E Jewellers, was approached by two unidentified men, who were posing as gold dealers.
They produced fake police IDs and told him he was under arrest.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case and appealed for information that may lead to arrest of the two suspects.
“Police are investigating a case where an Avondale gold buyer lost gold, cash and valuables to robbers,” said Insp Chakanza.
“On March 5 at around 8am, the complainant was in the office when he was approached by the accused, who pretended to be gold dealers.
“The accused produced police IDs and told him that he was under arrest for illegally dealing in gold.
“The accused persons ordered the complainant to take the gold and money, which were in the office, as exhibits.
“The accused persons indicated that they were going to the police station and force-marched the complainant to their black Toyota Fun Cargo.
“They drove along Natal Road, and while on the way, the accused persons produced knives and took 158 grammes of gold, a gold scale, US$5 010 and Itel A16 from the complainant.
“They then dumped the complainant in Belgravia and sped off,” said Insp Chakanza.
