A 51-year-old Bulawayo man posing as a High Court official allegedly defrauded a woman of about $1 300 after promising to push forward her court hearing to a later date.
Vision Sithole of Number 7 Napier Flats appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mrs Nyarodza Shingisai last week facing one count of fraud.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge arguing that the woman, Mrs Sithembiso Ndlovu was bitter after their relationship went sour. Prosecutor, Mr Charles Danda said on an unknown date but in October Mrs Ndlovu was introduced to Sithole by her friend, Shella Ante.
“The complainant approached the accused person and told him about the challenges she was facing in connection with her case which was being handled at the Bulawayo High Court,” said Mr Danda.
Mrs Ndlovu allegedly wanted her case to be heard quickly.
Mr Danda said Sithole told Mrs Ndlovu that he was working at the High Court in the administration department.
It is alleged that Sithole was given $1 270 by Mrs Ndlovu on different occasions in order to assist in the case.
Mr Danda said: “The complainant asked the accused person about the progress of her case and the accused person started telling different stories.
The complainant later realised that the accused person was not employed at the court and demanded her money back.”
She reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Sithole. Mrs Shingisai postponed the matter to 28 June for judgment.
