Bona, Simba on honeymoon

Harare Bureau
PRESIDENT Mugabe’s daughter Bona, who tied the knot with Simba Chikore last week, chose The Seychelles as her  honeymoon destination and is already on the Indian Ocean islands with her husband. Bona’s wedding drew the attention of the world after it was attended by African heads of state and government and other high level dignitaries.

Addressing civil servants attending his belated 90th birthday party celebrations organised by the Civil Service Commission in Harare yesterday, President Mugabe said the honeymoon came courtesy of Tourism and Hospitality Minister Engineer Walter Mzembi.

“They are happy together,” he said. “VaMzembi vakavapawo rufaro rwekuti vaende kuSeychelles ndokwavakabhururuka vachiti tonoitira honeymoon ikoko.

“So, tinoda kuvatenda vaMzembi nerufaro rwavakapa irworwo.”
The President left the gathering in stitches when he jokingly said with all the machinery the State had at its disposal, it failed to protect his daughter from Chikore.

“Va(Mariyawanda) Nzuwah vati tinoda kukukwazisai mese mhuri nejaya iro (Robert Junior) riri papapo asi havana kuenderera mberi nekuti President vari kusvimha kuti ah pane gwanzaka apo rasara riripapo,” he said.

“Ko vaNzuwah ndimi mune macommissioners, defence forces, vesecurity vese, mapurisa ese azere nyika buri rakapoya nemwana wangu riri papi? Ndakarasikirwa nemwana muripo makatarisa nemacommissioners enyu aya.
“Honai nhasi ndangouya nejaya iri rimwe raenda kuchikoro, umwe handichaziva kwaakaenda nemumasango umu.”

The Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces said he appreciated that marriage was the way life should be.
“Aiwa ndomagariro edu. Ndozvakanzi naMwari ndizvione zvichiitika,” said the President to wild cheers from the crowd.

President Mugabe hailed the support his family was getting from the public even during family bereavement.
“Tremendous help — first the death of my sister Bridget you came in a very solid way, very cheerful, mournful, full of sympathies and you have helped us to have the relief, to have the necessary courage and bravery that enabled us to make the arrangement that saw our daughter getting married and that too was preceded by my birthday also celebrated by the Youth League,” he said.

“Takaenda kuMarondera tese tikafara zvikurukuru and thereafter we have a grand marriage of our daughter.”
