Matheba from hosting “The Link” after it had discovered that she had not revealed that she had been head-hunted by rival M-Net for Mzansi Magic’s new gospel reality talent search show Battle of the Choirs .
Approached for comment yesterday, Kganyago responded: “I do not know anything about my replacing (Bonang) Matheba since no one has officially contacted me. Every presenter wants to work for the SABC, but this is not my gig.”
As to who is to replace Matheba — the showbiz powerhouse and IT girl — SABC 1 marketing manager Vukile Madlala said, diplomatically: “Nothing is confirmed yet because we are still in the process of looking for a replacement presenter. The show will go on air as scheduled next week Thursday at 6.30pm.”
All SABC 1 acting general manager Leo Manne was prepared to say was: “Matheba is doing this (moving on) with our blessing.
“The channel will always support and have a relationship with her.”
Sarit Reouveni Tomlinson, spokesman for Matheba’s publicity company, Capacity Relations, said: “The decision for Matheba to move on was amicable and reached by both parties.
“Matheba is grateful for the opportunities SABC 1 had afforded her over the years. She considered the channel to be part of her extended family.”
Being axed from “The Link” before it could even hit the small screen is seen as a major blow for Matheba, who is fresh from the drama of her on-and-off relationship with boyfriend Themba “DJ Euphonik” Nkosi —Sowetan.
