adminThe four — middle distance runner Sithulisiwe Zhou, Trymore Kanzara, Kudakwashe James and Bertha Chikanga — who come from disadvantaged families were identified by Joram Dambana who is their coach.
The trio of Kanzara, Zhou and Chikanga are expected to represent the nation in the forthcoming Africa Junior Championships in South Africa. The sponsors are also set to cater for the traveling expenses for those that would have qualified for various competitions so that they will be able to compete.
Speaking at the presentation of the kits, Baker Tilly Gwatidzo managing partner, Phibion Gwatidzo, said the sponsorship was going to be reviewed depending on the athletes’ performance.
“In a sense I think I am a sport enthusiastic. I saw these athletes running at the National Schools athletics this year, my son was there competing for Harare province so I went to assess him and in the process I saw these athletes running.
“I knew coach Simba (Nyamariwata) from St George’s where my son is going to school and he is the one who approached me.
“They were running barefoot, they didn’t have proper kit but they were the good athletes.”
