Boost for comedy lovers

Harare’s Theatre in the Park is now the home of choice for comedy enthusiasts following its introduction of Comedy Thursdays.
The programme is a brainchild of Tanya Alex of Peaces Pieces Entertainment and has been hailed as a game-changer for aspiring comedians.

Alex, Mya Banksie, Kudakwashe Clinton Tavaziva, DC and Eye Rafa will perform at this week’s edition.

In an interview, Alex, who has made a name for herself as an arts administrator, said the slot was created to give both rising and seasoned comedians a platform to express themselves.

“The number of comedy shows around Harare was dwindling. I wanted to create a space for comedians to regularly perform and grow an audience.

“Many comedians have been in touch with me to perform. The audience is slowly growing as more people have become aware of the show,” she said.

Alex said she is determined to empower local comedians through keeping in touch with global trends.

“I intend to keep the show regular with an ever-changing roster of comedians, including seasoned ones.

“We already have seasoned comedians such as myself, Ckanyiso who you may know as Buju from Special Class and Patrick Zindoga.

“Soon we will be big enough to invite comedians like Doc Vikela, Carl Joshua Ncube and Edgar Langeveldt,” she said.

“When I’m at home I write jokes and come up with concepts for upcoming shows. Whenever I have data I post on social media.”
