Hurungwe Rural District Council has stepped up efforts to maintain a clean environment by procuring refuse bins and putting together a Zero-Waste Committee.
The local authority has acquired 450 refuse bins that will be distributed to households and service centres.
Hurungwe RDC recently launched the Zero-Waste Movement and pledged to maintain a clean environment.
Council chairperson, Mrs Mary Mliswa Chikoka challenged communities to unite and promote cleanliness.
“As Hurungwe, we need to work together to keep our communities and business areas clean,” she said.
“We have the responsibility to keep our environment clean. We want to work with everyone, including schools, clinics and other public places,” she said.
Hurungwe District Development Coordinator, Mr Andrew Tizora said Hurungwe RDC has taken a giant step in promoting a clean environment.

“The bins we see today will go a long way in helping keep Hurungwe clean. The message and impact should cascade to every part of the district,” said Mr Tizora.
Environmental Management Agency Mashonaland West provincial manager, Dr Kingstone Chitotombe said waste is a potential revenue earner.
