A Mberengwa woman died after she was attacked by a crocodile while fetching water from a dam.
The body of Thokozile Gumbo of Somerai Village was found by villagers who had heard her screaming.

Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred on Sunday at around noon.

“It is alleged that around 1100 hours, Gumbo went to fetch water for domestic use from Mundi Dam while her husband Adrine Moyo went to look for firewood.

“At about 1200 hours, Moyo returned home and discovered that his wife had not returned from the dam,” said Inspector Mahoko.

This prompted Moyo to start searching for his wife.

“He went to the dam and upon arrival, Moyo met some villagers who had gathered there. They informed him that his wife might have been attacked by a crocodile.

“The villagers conducted a search and recovered Gumbo’s body which had a fractured right leg and wounds on the thigh,” said Inspector Mahoko.
