ZIMRA has cleared a state-of-the-art fire truck, which was acquired by the City of Kadoma, but has been lying idle for the last seven months.

Two fire trucks were delivered in June last year but only one was commissioned to operate while one of them has been waiting for clearance from ZIMRA.

The cleared fire truck had been attending to emergencies in and around the City of Kadoma.

Kadoma Mayor Nigel Ruzario confirmed a second fire tender has now been cleared for use by the city.

“That other fire tender has been released and is now with us,” he said.

A host of councils in the country have taken delivery of these fire trucks.

During a stakeholders meeting here recently, city finance director Faustina Zhou was asked about the availability of the fire tender by Greater Kadoma Residents Association chairperson, Lameck Madziva.

Zhou said:

“We got instructions from ZIMRA to shelve the use of one of the two fire tenders due to shipment documents that had not been completed.

“We then made a follow-up and inquired with our parent, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, who confirmed the same position saying we should not use the identified fire tender until all documentations had been completed,” said Zhou.

Kadoma bought the two fire tenders, which are part of a consignment sourced from Belarus.
